French shutters are window shutters which are clearly inspired by French architecture and are inspired by the French renaissance. The Renaissance occurred from the late 15th century to the 17th century which revolutionized art and culture for France. As a result of the renaissance, new ideas inspired French artists and those who deign homes by having a new approach on designing homes and adding more artistic designs to windows and window shutters.

Shutters could be found almost in every French home just like in classic European homes from Italy, Austria, Belgium an
d Germany. French shutters are made to keep every French home away from harmful effects of outside elements like rain, excessive sunlight, and dust and hail storms. It also gives French citizens privacy. It prevents home dwellers from being seen by people from the outside like bystanders and passersby. French shutters is completely or almost made of wood as some have iron bars compressing it to make it look like an old barrel or the fences of homes and gates.

French shutters can mostly be found outside the windows of houses and can come in different colors like brown, indigo, light blue and green. French shutters are usually painted with wood for protection and to prevent it from being damaged by bad weather and insects. Just like the houses on the other parts of Europe, French houses have flowers in their window panes that add charm and attraction to every French home.

Some French shutters have designs that are carved in as holes on its wood. They could be in the middle or the bottom part of the shutter, design could be in a heart shape, flowers or stars depending on the design or shape desired by the homeowner. French villages have houses that feature these shutters making French houses artistically and creatively designed.

Having this motif applied at homes is considered to be very pleasing and attractive for onlookers. French homes from the countryside and old urban districts feature these shutters as one of the key components of the exterior of houses as houses would not look complete without these shutters. These shutters are featured in houses of different sizes in France. Some are applied to two storey apartment style French house or simply a house on rural regions and/or the countryside. And, these shutters have made homes in France still appear to be attractive no matter where they stand.

French shutters can be applied in your homes as long as they fit the home design. They provide a classical and renaissance look to a house, which adds attraction to it. It could be lined by louvers that are filled with horizontal pieces of wood to regulate sunlight from entering the house. Indeed, this kind of shutter serves a number of purposes for home protection and for aesthetic purposes as well. It is truly an evidence of beauty of French architecture as it gives French and other European homes a more colorful and eye pleasing design – something that will make you feel really at home.
