Of all of the aspects of Croydon that have helped to demonstrate just how much of a destination the once-unglamorous London borough has become in recent years, one of the biggest surely has to be the Croydon Food and Music Festival. Indeed, such has been the event’s success that it is primed to run for the eighth time this June – and it may well be the best instalment yet.

A bellwether for Croydon’s continued resurgence

Croydon Food and Music Festival was first held as the South End Food Festival in 2012, and it’s fair to say that

the area’s fortunes have changed decidedly since then. Indeed, the locality has gone from strength to strength, including being rebranded as the Restaurant Quarter, which is now one of the parts of Croydon in which to be seen.

Meanwhile, the steady growth of the festival itself saw it attract a record-breaking crowd of more than 12,000 last year. Organised by the South Croydon Business Association, the event is set to cement its status as the borough’s largest summer festival when it is next held on the afternoon of Sunday 23rd June 2019, showcasing “an even wider range of international cuisine.”

Restaurateur Peter Bagatti, of the South Croydon Business Association, commented: “I am proud to say this is now our eighth year of the Croydon Food and Music Festival.

“It has developed massively since it started in 2012 with triple the amount of people and stalls than we had back then. But most importantly, it’s now recognised and enjoyed as a fantastic day out for the whole community.”

What can visitors expect at this year’s event?

The 2019 Croydon Food and Music Festival will run from 12noon to 7pm, giving festival-goers the opportunity to dine on outside tables over the course of the day.

Organisers have promised that there will also be more than 90 different street food stalls, a demo-kitchen stage featuring top local chefs, street cocktail and prosecco bars, street performers and stiltwalkers, and children’s entertainment. In addition, local venue Hoodoos will host a stage, with folk, rock, jazz and blues acts expected to perform.

The Quarter will be closed to traffic for the event to enable visitors to relax and enjoy the carnival atmosphere.
